Ghana’s Henrietta Lamptey Chosen to Lead African Electronic Registration Board

Madam Henrietta Lamptey, the Registrar of Ghana’s Births and Deaths Registry, has been appointed to chair the first-ever African Electronic Registration System Advisory Board.

This new board aims to speed up the development and use of electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (eCRVS) systems across Africa.

Madam Lamptey is the Registrar of Ghana’s Births and Deaths, she will chair the African Electronic Registration System Advisory Board for two years. The announcement was made during a workshop in Accra on Monday, August 12, 2024.

The workshop was organized for editors and senior journalists to raise awareness about the importance of timely birth and death registration. It also aimed to educate the media about the procedures and requirements for registration, as well as key areas of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 2020 (Act 1027).

This event was an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the Registry and the media, ensuring that the message of timely registration is effectively spread across Ghana.

As chair of the African eCRVS Shared Asset (ACSA) Advisory Board, Madam Lamptey will lead efforts to promote standardization and harmonization in Civil Registration and Vital Statistics systems across Africa. Her role includes developing and implementing the ACSA initiative, providing technical support, and overseeing the digitalization of these systems.

Madam Lamptey will also guide the board in establishing a framework that includes design principles and data standards for CRVS digitalization. Additionally, she will help evaluate and recommend suitable digital solutions for the Shared Asset.

Representatives from countries like Angola, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal, Zambia, and Zimbabwe also serve on the ACSA Advisory Board. These countries were chosen based on their commitment to modernizing and digitally transforming CRVS systems.
