In 2012, babies were sold between ¢30,000 and ¢50,000 – Ellen Ama Daaku

A member of the communications team for the reigning New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana, Ellen Ama Daaku has alleged that baby boys and girls born in the country as of 2012 were sold between ¢50,000 ($8,200), and ¢30,000 ($4,920) respectively.

The mother of two made this allegation when she appeared on The Breakfast Show on GTV on Friday, October 29, 2021. Speaking on reports that 4 alleged baby thieves had been remanded into the custody of the National Intelligence Bureau, Ellen Ama Daaku shared her experience.

Although she will not disclose the name of the “top-class private hospital” the incident happened, she narrated how a nurse with the facility advised her mum to keep a close eye on her baby and not allow anyone to take the baby out of her sight.

“I had a personal experience with my firstborn when I was in labour. A nurse whom I knew (she was a church member), actually told my mother that she could keep an eye on the child and make sure that she never leaves the child alone with anybody. And this is not a low-class hospital or a government hospital, this was a top-class private hospital. Later on, my mother explained to me how the nurse stepped on her toes. That there was this syndicate in that hospital…
