The past week was a wild ride following the assassination attempt on former U.S. President Trump. This week starts on an eventful note as American President Biden announced his exit from the 2024 presidential race.
On Sunday, July 21, 2024, President Biden via his official X account announced his decision to decline the Democratic nomination and focus on the remainder of his tenure. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as a nominee for the party and ended up encouraging Democrats, “… It’s time to come together and beat Trump…”

The post comes less than an hour after his farewell post on Twitter.
Addressing the American people, Biden reflected on his time in office and his accomplishments. He thanked them for their support and promised to speak more about his decision later this week.
With the debate set for September 10th, 2024 (barely 2 months away) and Biden having already participated in the June 27th debate, the new development is a stunner.
There’s a lot of sentiment right now; gratitude for his service, relief after worries about his ability to beat Trump after a shaky debate performance, excitement for the potential of the second female Presidential Candidate in 8 years (since the Democratic party nominated Hillary Clinton in 2016), and a woman of color.
Whichever way you fall, it has no doubt sent shock waves around the world. Is this the right decision? Will Kamala officially get the nomination from the DNC? Who will be the V.P. if she gets the ticket?
On one hand, there is a former president who triumphantly survived an assassination attempt, and on the other, a former Vice President who represents something entirely new. The world watches with bated breath.
Knowing Biden is out, who does the democratic party have in line?
