Kenyan national arrested at Kotoka with over $300k worth of cocaine

Njeri Mary, 35, a Kenyan national has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) of Ghana for possession of a substance alleged to be cocaine.

The suspect who was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Saturday, April 5, 2023, is alleged to have smuggled into the country 11.04 kilogrammes of cocaine worth Three Hundred and Nine Thousand One Hundred and Twenty United States Dollars ($ 309,120).

According to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the suspect was arrested when she came in from Nairobi via a South African Airways flight.

A search of her luggage revealed packages of Cremora food that contained the concealed drugs.

Preliminary questioning revealed that she had confirmed possession of the consignment in her luggage, and she was later arrested for further investigation.

The exhibits have since been sent to the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) for analysis and report, while the suspect is being held in prison pending further investigations and prosecution.

NACOC has assured the public of its commitment to reducing the drug trafficking threat to the country.

The Commission also reminded the general public that the possession and transportation of illicit drugs without lawful authority is illegal and punishable under sections 40 (1) and 41 (1) of Act 1019 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020.
