Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota has died in a car crash

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car crash, aged 28, according to reports in Spain.

The Portugal forward’s brother, Andre Silva, also died in the accident, which took place at the A-52, near Palacios de Sanabria, in Zamora.

The 26-year-old was also a professional footballer with Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel.

Both died instantly, according to emergency services who arrived at the scene after receiving several calls.

The brutality of the crash left no room for action for the medical personnel, and since then, the footballer’s circle has been left in shock.

Jota married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, with whom he has three children, just last month.

He recently posted pictures on social media, external to the ceremony, which took place on 22 June.

Who was Diogo Jota?

Diogo Jota played as a striker for Liverpool.

The 28-year-old forward began his career in his native Portugal and played at Atletico Madrid in Spain before coming to England.

He joined the Merseyside club from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020.

Jota played an important role throughout his five years with the Reds, including scoring six times in Liverpool’s recent Premier League-winning season.

An avid video gamer, Jota also owned an eSports team and regularly streamed on Twitch.

He got married two weeks ago to hid long-term girlfriend, Rute Cardoso – see post at 9.26am – and has three children.

Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, 26 and also a professional footballer, reportedly died alongside him in the crash.
